Research interests and projects

 

Research fields:

Regional Geology and field analysis, Volcanism and Tectonics, Stratigraphical-Structural and Geological Cartography in Southern Apennines and Sicily, Geoarcheology, Geosites.

 

The data of the scientific research are expressed in approximately 80 publications on national and international reviews, and in beyond 30 Geological Maps (at different scales) and structural model.

Winner of the “Premio Società Geologica Italiana 2003”.

 

Current, ongoing research:

  • CARG Project for C.N.R, Sicilia and Basilicata Regions.
  • Interdisciplinary analysis of geological-geophysical-petrological data for a new crustal–upper mantle model for SE Sicily.
  • Role and asset-value of the geosites as essential components of environmental systems and mankind’s cultural and scientific heritage.

  • 1982-84: Convention between Ente Minerario Siciliano-C.E.E. and University of Catania for "Analysis of perspective and genetic models of the Miocene Phosphorites of SE Sicily", and with the collaboration of researchers of Hull University, for comparison with the Maltese Phosphorites.
  • 1989: Oceanographic Cruise J/89 (N/O Minerva of the CNR9) in “Messina Rise”.
  • 1989-91: stay-study at the Institut Géologique Albert De Lapparent (IGAL) of Paris, for the Bilateral Project on "Structural Units of the southern Apennines and Sicily".
  • 1998, Scientific cooperation with “Faculté des Sciences et Techniques of Tangeri (Marocco) - Université Abdelmalek Essaadi, for analysis of Cretaceous and Oligo-Miocene flysch of the Rift for a comparison with analogous sequences of the Sicialian Apenninic-Maghrebian Chain.
  • 1999-2001, University Shahid Beheshti of Tehran (Iran): collaboration of bilateral research on “the Zagros Thrust Zones (western Iran)”, with two periods of stages (1999 and 2001).
  • 2003-2005: scientific cooperation with Collegues of the Rumanian University (Unisersity of Bucarest e University of Iasi) focused to the “Eocene-Oligocene stratigraphic succession of the Romanian Carpathians.
