Learning Objectives

  • Understanding geological processes and their relation with the geodynamic contexts;
  • Understanding the primary and the deformed geometries of rock bodies;
  • Understanding criteria and methods in reconstructing 2D and 3D stratigraphic and structural data;
  • Basic Knowledge of regional geology;
  • Competence in using and interpreting geological maps;

Ability in constructing 2D geometries by using surface and subsurface data and drawing geological cross-sections.

Course Structure

The course consists of 42 hours lectures integrated with 36 hours of practical activities dedicated to achievement of abilities in the application of the acquired knowledge

Detailed Course Content

Topic 1: criteria and methods for reconstructing the 3D geometries of rock bodies; ability in costructing basic geological cross-sections

Topic 2: study and analysis of the sedimentary process and of the sedimentary rocks; ability and competence in recognizing and classifying sedimentary rocks

Topic 3: competence in interpreting the paleogeographic and paleotectonic significance of stratigraphic successions

Topic 4: competence in recognising and descibing tectonic structures; ability in constructing geological sections reproducing complex contexts.
