Learning Objectives

The course has the specific aim of providing adequate skills on types of geothermal resources, with particular attention to low-enthalpy resources, and on technological methods for their employment. Should teaching be carried out in mixed mode or remotely, it may be necessary to introduce changes with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the syllabus. Learning assessment may also be carried out on line, should the conditions require it.

Course Structure

  • Introduction to Thermogeology
  • Energetic resources, sources and energy production
  • Principles of heat transfer
  • Heat fluxes and geothermal anomalies on Earth
  • Types of geothermal systems
  • Geothermal power plants
  • Ground as Heat Storage Reservoir
  • Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP)
  • Types of low-enthaply geothermal systems with GSHP technology
  • Environmental impact, regulation and geohazards associated to low-enthaply geothermal systems
