Expected Learning Outcomes

The objectives of the Course are to provide the student with the molecular basis of oncological and autoimmune diseases and the knowledge on modern diagnostic techniques of the biomedical laboratory

Course Structure

Autoimmunity: molecular basis of autoimmunity, hypersensitivity reactions, nosographic classification of the main autoimmune diseases


Immunofluorescence: principles and applications in the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases


Transplant immunology: molecular basis and study techniques


Molecular basis of neoplasms: alteration of the mechanisms for maintaining genomic integrity; oncogenes and tumor suppressors


DNA methylation study: study of the MLH1 gene and the MGMT gene


Flow cytometry: principles and applications in the biomedical field and in the diagnostics of oncological diseases of the blood


Microarrays: principles, platforms, applications in the biomedical field


First and Next generation Sequencing: Sanger sequencing; Maxam-Gilbert sequencing; pyrosequencing; Illumina sequencing; nanopore sequencing


Applications of molecular pathology techniques to oncology: microsatellite instability, BRCA1-2 mutations, BRAFV600E mutations
