(2020-2021) Post-doc fellow at the University of Catania, Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences. Topic: Physical-mechanical characterization of massive and soft rocks and consequences on instability even through thermographic analyzes.

(2018-2019) Post-doc fellow at the University of Catania, Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences. Topic: Geological-technical and geomechanical survey, also with infrared thermography, of potentially unstable sectors in areas of South-Eastern Sicily and the Maltese Archipelago.

(2017-2018) Post-doc fellow at the University of Catania for the study of the mechanical behavior of rocks and rock masses aimed at the development of new scientific investigation technologies and related scientific dissemination.

(2015) Contract collaborator at CUTGANA, University of Catania for the execution, processing and interpretation of infrared thermal images in naturalistic geological areas.

(2012-2013) Contract collaborator at the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences of the University of Catania with research activities focused on the characterization of rocks and rock masses through in situ investigations and laboratory tests.

SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

(2020) Guest Editor of the Special Issue “Natural Events Threatening the Cultural Heritage: Characterization, Prevention and Risk Management for a Sustainable Fruition” -  Sustainability journal (MDPI).

INVOLVEMENT RESEARCH GROUPS

(2020-today) Contribution in the activities of a research group within the agreement between the University of Catania (Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences) and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The research concerns activities related to the fields of applied geology and cultural heritage.

(2018-2019) Contribution in the activities of a research group within SIMIT-THARSY (Tsunami Hazard Reduction System) project, INTERREG V-A Italy-Malta 2014-2020 program . Research activities are focused on the geological-technical and geomechanical survey, including with infrared thermography, of potentially unstable sectors in areas of south-eastern Sicily and the Maltese Archipelago.

(2016-today) Contribution in the activities of a research group within the framework of the agreement stipulated between the University of Catania (Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences) and the University of Naples "Federico II" ( Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences). The object of the scientific collaboration between the two research groups is the study of landslides in areas belonging to the Apennine-Maghrebid Orogene and the evaluation of the implications on structures and infrastructures, in order to develop innovative techniques in the perimeter of landslide risk and for remote monitoring.

(2017-2020) Contribution in the project entitled "Multidisciplinary analysis for the assessment of landslide risk in sites of cultural importance and strategic infrastructures" funded by the University of Catania as part of the Three-Year Research Plan 2017-2020, scientific director Prof. Giovanna Pappalardo (Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences, UNICT).

(2012-2013) Study and scientific research entrusted, through the stipulation of a collaboration contract, by the University of Catania as part of an agreement signed with the Municipality of Santa Venerina (CT). The object of this scientific study was "the updating of data on the lithotechnical characteristics of lava rocks to proceed with their computerization by carrying out the technical control and completion of the collection of geological data observable on the ground"

AWARDS AND ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

(2020) AIGA Award for the best scientific contribution. Awarded by the Italian Association of Applied and Environmental Geology (AIGA) for having produced a "clear, well-designed, innovative and with scientifically robust results" scientific article. Award-winning publication: Mineo S., Pappalardo G. (2019) - InfraRed Thermography presented as an innovative and non-destructive solution to quantify rock porosity in laboratory. International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 115, 99-110

(2020) AIGA Young Researchers Award. Awarded by the Italian Association of Applied and Environmental Geology (AIGA) for "the dedication, rigor and commitment in the various research and teaching activities".

(2017) Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing for the contributions made to the quality of the journal Tunneling and underground space technology (Elsevier). Awarded in September 2017 by the Editors of "Tunneling and underground space technology incorporating trenchless technology research", Elsevier, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
