PETROLOGY OF MINERAL DEPOSIT
Module MODULO 1

Academic Year 2025/2026 - Teacher: ROSOLINO CIRRINCIONE

Expected Learning Outcomes

Mineral deposits are the final product of a more or less complex series of geological events that led to the formation of useful mineral substances in a certain portion of the earth's crust. Knowing the processes that give rise to various types of deposits is essential for the search and exploitation of mineral resources. The geologist's role is to find ore bodies and natural enrichments of metals, but also to describe and evaluate the characteristics of these deposits and the geological factors that control the costs of extracting a product. The objectives of this course are to provide an understanding of the geochemical, petrological, structural, and sedimentological characteristics that determine the formation of different types of mineral deposits; to highlight the importance of the geologist not only in the exploration phase but also in evaluating the environmental impact that both the cultivation and processing phases can have; and to provide historical knowledge of mining activity in Italy and in Europe.
