Research interests

Scientific Contributions inside several National and International working Groups:

- Analysis of seismological data for defining seismogenic zones and structures in tectonically active regions (north-eastern Italy, southern Italy, Sicily). Individuation of active faults.

- Analysis of main seismic sequences and study of the moderate and large earthquakes of Friuli and Sicily.

- Quantification of historical earthquakes and compilation of catalogues for different Italian areas. Definition of seismic histories, hazard and seismic scenarios for several Sicilian sites.

- Post earthquakes damage surveys (Palermo, Etna area, Umbria-Marche, Abruzzo, etc.).

- Individuation of Etna seismically active faults, study of their behaviour and relationships with the volcano structure. Statistical correlations between seismicity and eruptive processes.

- Paleoseismology off-fault, seismoinduced effects, tsunami deposits.

- Archeosismology

Scientific responsible of several research projects: funds CNR - Gruppo Nazionale per la Difesa dei Terremoti and Gruppo Nazionale per la Vulcanologia, funds of Ateneo (ex 60%) and DPC-INGV. Her scientific research is supported by about 80 scientific publications, several of which on international papers.

She is member of the advisory Board for the 2010-2013 period of the Italian Journal of Geosciences of the Società Geologica Italiana.

She has been and is referee of numerous national and international scientific journals such as: Annales of Geophysics, Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, Journal of Seismology, Natural Hazards, Geophysical Research Letters, Journal of Earthquake Engineering, Nat. Haz. Earth Sci. Syst., etc

She has been Convenor and Co-convenor of many international symposia on Natural Risks and related subjects.

Recently she is involved in the following research projects:

2016-2020: OP INTERREG V-A Italia-Malta, project “SIMIT-THARSY” - Tsunami Hazard Reduction System.

2020-2021: progetto ARS01_00697 "AGM for CuHe - Materiali di nuova generazione per il restauro dei beni culturali: nuovo approccio alla fruizione" Area di specializzazione Cultural Heritage del PNR 2015-2020"
