RESEARCH SKILLS

  • Cenozoic benthic and planktonic foraminifera classification
  • Microscopic analysis of calcareous plankton (Foraminifera and Nannofossils) and integrated biostratigraphy
  • Smear-slide preparation
  • Field experience in the Mediterranean area (Sicily), Aspromonte (Calabria, Italy), in the Western Alps and Pyrenees (Spain)
  • Geological mapping
  • Petrological description of rocks in hand specimen and thin section
  • Macrofossil description and identification of the main classes

My key current research falls under palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions of costal carbonates, through stable isotopic analysis (mostly δ18O  δ13C) on benthic and planktonic foraminifera, and bulk rock, and their correlation with eustatic and relative sea-level changes.

During my career as a Geologist, I develop the following research interests:

  • seismic interpretation of 2D and 3D lines for oil investigation (such as bright spots), for sequence stratigraphic analyses, and structural geology;
  • basin analysis, modelling and backstripping.
