Detailed Course Content
The spontaneous vascular flora of the Mediterranean basin. Biological forms of Raunkier, Chorology, Phytogeography. Taxonomy: nomenclature and classification. The cladistics. Evolution of vascular plants. Organization of the body of vascular plants. The phyla of vascular cryptogamic plants. The living gymnosperms. Diversity in the phylum Anthophyta. Origin and diversification of angiosperms. The phylogenetic relationships of angiosperms.
Identification, ecological analysis, conservation status and monitoring of threatened plant species (Policy Species, Endemic), with particular regard to Sicilian species. Description and analysis of the morphological characters of the most significant families. Vascular cryptogams (Blechnaceae, Dryopteridaceae, Athyriaceae, Cystopteridaceae, Aspleniaceae, Marsileaceae, Salviniaceae, Dennstaedtiineae, Pteridaceae, Polypodiaceae, Osmundaceae, Ophioglossaceae, Equisetaceae, Selaginaceae). Gymnospermae (Pinaceae, Cupressaceae, Taxaceae, Ephedraceae). Angiospermae, Liliopsida class (Monocotyledons): Liliaceae, Iridaceae, Cyperaceae, Juncaeae, Potamogetonaceae, Poaceae, Palmae, Orchideaceae. Magnoliopsida class (EuDicotyledons): Anacardiaceae, Apiaceae, Asteraceae, Boraginaceae, Brassicaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Ericaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Fagaceae, Lamiaceae, Oleaceae, Papaveraceae, Plumbaginaceae, Raunculaceae, Runculaceae.
