Expected Learning Outcomes

Acquisition of basic knowledge of virology; understanding of the viral pathogenetic mechanisms; diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and prophylaxis of viral infections; evaluation of the transmission pathways of viral infections; choice and evaluation of the most appropriate pathological samples in the field of microbiology: collection  and maintenance of the sample for diagnostic use; knowledge of the characteristics of the most important viral families.

Detailed Course Content

Virus: biology, pathogenesis, treatment and prophylaxis; principles viral diagnosis (direct and indirect); viruses belonging to the families: Orthomyxoviridae, Herpesviridae, Adenoviridae, Papillomaviridae, Paramyxoviridae, Reoviridae, Coronaviridae, Picornaviridae, Bunyaviridae, Hepadnaviridae; HIV 1-2, HCV, parvovirus B19, JC and BK viruses, rubella virus. Malformative infecions in pregnancy
