Textbook Information
Evert R.F. & Eichorn S.E. Raven's Plant Biology, Zanichelli
The seventh Italian edition of Raven's Plant Biology has undergone the most significant revision in its history. There have been exciting developments in every area, from the molecular peculiarities of photosynthesis to the notable differences in taxonomic relationships, highlighted by comparing DNA and RNA sequences, to the advances in genomics and genetic engineering that allow a better understanding of plant anatomy and physiology.
In recording these new advances, the authors have strengthened the exposition, carefully explained new terms, and added more recent diagrams, photographs, and electron micrographs, while continuing to pay particular attention to the book's main themes: the functioning of a plant organism as a dynamic result of processes mediated by biochemical interactions; evolutionary relationships, valuable for understanding the structure and function of organisms; ecology as an integrated theme that emphasizes our dependence on plants; and molecular research, essential for revealing the details of plant genetics, cellular functions, and taxonomic relationships.
Smith A.M., Coupland G., Dolan L., Harberd N., Jones J., Martin C., Sablowski R., Plant Biology, vol. 1.
The book begins with a summary of the origin of modern plants: how their ancestors are thought to have been aquatic algal species; their conquest of dry land; and how angiosperms came to dominate terrestrial vegetation. It then examines the key features of plant genomes and provides an updated overview of plant cell biology, metabolism, and development.
Speranza A., Calzoni G.L. Plant Structure in Pictures – A Guide to the Microscopic Anatomy of Vascular Plants, Zanichelli
This book illustrates the internal structure of vascular plants. Using direct images, it provides numerous examples of the wide variety of patterns in which plant cells and tissues are organized and aggregated within the plant body. The aspects that refer to the mature forms of the organs are certainly privileged, there is also a necessary reference to the peculiar mechanisms of plant development.
