Expected Learning Outcomes

Provide the foundations for understanding coastal ecosystems and biodiversity in relation to the exploitation of biological resources through professional fishing practices. The student will be expected to acquire knowledge of the biology and ecology of the main species of fishing interest, as well as of the main techniques and gears used for their capture, together with the concept of overfishing and the conditions that may negatively affect fishing activities. In addition, notions will be provided concerning the management of these resources with a view to their sustainable exploitation.

Required Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of zoological systematics, biodiversity, and ecosystem functioning.
